Smart times are determined using your vehicle’s charging needs and rate plan information, grid stress, and energy cleanliness signals.
Based on these inputs, WeaveGrid algorithms prioritize meeting the following goals in order:
- Get your car charged up by the time you need it
- Charge at the cheapest times
- Charge when energy generation is cheapest or electric grid stress is lowest
Smart times are smart because they represent the times when energy is cheapest to generate, which is also typically when energy from cleaner resources is greater. Charging at these times can help reduce carbon emissions and also reduce expenses for maintaining the electric grid, which means lower rates for all utility customers. If you’re on a Time of Use rate, ‘smart times’ are usually those off-peak, when rates are lower.
