Once your Tesla is connected during the WeaveGrid registration process and you've successfully enrolled in a program with automatic smart charging, your charging will be optimally scheduled each time you plug in at home based on your settings.
How it works
When you plug in at home, WeaveGrid automatically creates a charging schedule for your vehicle based on:
- Any advanced features you've enabled (e.g., Low Battery Protection or Peak Avoidance)
- Your Tesla’s current battery level and ‘Charge Limit’ (set in your Tesla app)
- Your desired departure time (set in your WeaveGrid dashboard)
- Your electricity rate (set by your utility)
- The speed of your home charger
- Grid conditions
After WeaveGrid creates a charging schedule for your vehicle, the ‘Start Charging At’ setting in your Tesla app will be automatically updated.
- Before plugging in to charge, you’ll see WeaveGrid sets a basic off-peak schedule that starts at midnight.
- Within a few minutes of plugging in to charge, you will see the ‘Start Charging At’ setting in your Tesla app update to this optimized time.
Managing your settings
- Departure Time: Set this on your WeaveGrid dashboard. You can update this in the “Charge Preferences” section (the grey card on the right side of your dashboard) or via the pop-up reminder that appears when you log in.
- ‘Charge Limit’: Manage this setting directly in the Tesla app. WeaveGrid pulls this information from Tesla. You can’t edit this in the WeaveGrid dashboard.
- Enable Advanced Features: Enable additional optional features like Low Battery Protection (charging when you're below 20%) or Peak Avoidance (charging only during on-peak hours)
Making manual changes
If you manually edit the ‘Start Charging at’ or ‘End Charging by’ settings in the Tesla app after WeaveGrid has set a schedule, WeaveGrid will temporarily disable its optimized schedule to respect your manual changes for that session. After that session is complete, the standard midnight schedule will be restored. Please also keep in mind that any charging that occurs after you update these settings can cause an override.
If you change your ‘Charge limit’ within the Tesla app, after we’ve set a schedule, WeaveGrid will optimize a new schedule for you.
How to override
To start charging immediately, override your WeaveGrid schedule through your vehicle, charger, or the Tesla app — or reply CHARGE NOW to 59972 via SMS.
