As a Tesla 3rd party authorized partner, WeaveGrid requires a set of access permissions to deliver you a seamless electric vehicle program experience. This official 3rd party access enables the highest level of security and user control. WeaveGrid will never interact with your vehicle in any way outside of the specific requirements for the utility program you are participating in.
WeaveGrid is committed to securing users’ data. We maintain stringent data security procedures to prevent details about our users and their charging and driving patterns from being misused or disclosed to unauthorized parties.
To connect your vehicle to WeaveGrid, we require the following two types of access:
- Vehicle Information
- Vehicle Charging Management
If you are signing up for a utility program that includes Automatic Smart Charging, you will also need to set up a virtual key in the Tesla app.
More on each type of access
While WeaveGrid only requires two types of access to deliver utility programs; providing additional access can make it easier for us to troubleshoot issues that may arise as well as allow you to participate in a broader set of program offerings later on!
Here is how we utilize the information in each type of access:
Vehicle Information
- Your car's status and home location are required to give you and your utility insights into charging at home. WeaveGrid may also need access to the settings that allow for managing, scheduling, and optimizing your home charging (if applicable to your program).
Vehicle Charging Management
- These settings are used to set and update charging schedules for the vehicle (only if applicable for the program).
- If you are participating in a utility program that includes Automatic Smart Charging, you will need to provide access to Vehicle Information and Vehicle Charging Management to proceed in the sign up flow. If your utility program does not include Automatic Smart Charging, then Vehicle Information is the only required access permission to proceed. Please contact WeaveGrid support for assistance
Energy Product Information and Energy Product Commands
- Enables WeaveGrid to deliver more advanced features related to charging and any other Tesla Energy products you may have. Giving us permission ensures a smooth experience as we release new features and your home energy system evolves.
If you are participating in a utility program that includes Automatic Smart Charging, you will need to provide access to Vehicle Information and Vehicle Charging Management to proceed in the sign up flow. If your utility program does not include Automatic Smart Charging, then Vehicle Information is the only required access permission to proceed. Please contact support for assistance.
More on Virtual Keys
If you are participating in a program that includes Automatic Smart Charging, Tesla requires that you install a virtual key that enables WeaveGrid to remotely manage charging for your vehicle. Use this link to set up a new third-party virtual key in the Tesla app. The key is stored directly on your vehicle for additional security, and ensures all charging commands sent by WeaveGrid are verified.
The key must be enabled by the vehicle owner. If you are not the owner, send the link to the Tesla owner to complete this step in their Tesla App. Please also note your phone may need to be within Bluetooth range of the vehicle.
If you have more than one Tesla enrolled in the program, scan the QR code and hit “approve” in the Tesla app for one vehicle, then switch cars in the app, and scan the code again to complete the task again.
