Yes, if you are enrolled in an automatic smart charging program with your home charging station, you can charge multiple vehicles on this charger.
To ensure reliable charging for all your vehicles, here's what we suggest:
Multiple fully electric vehicles
If you own multiple fully electric vehicles that need charging frequently, we recommend alternating which vehicle you charge each day to avoid having to wait for one vehicle to finish.
Need to charge both vehicles in one night?
- Before plugging in the first vehicle, update the "Ready By" time in your WeaveGrid dashboard so it finishes earlier in the night
- Plug in and charge the first vehicle
- Once the first vehicle is done charging, plug in your second vehicle
Mix of plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and fully electric vehicles
If you have a mix of plug-in hybrid(s) and fully electric vehicle(s), we recommend using the enrolled charging station to charge your fully electric vehicle and charging your PHEV with a separate charger.
Here's why: PHEVs have much smaller batteries than fully electric vehicles. When enrolled through your charging station, WeaveGrid can't tell which vehicle is plugged in - this is an industry-wide limitation with charging station data.
For example, if your PHEV and fully electric vehicle both need 50% more charge, the PHEV might need 1 hour while the fully electric vehicle needs 4 hours. Without knowing which vehicle you've plugged in, the platform may schedule too little charging time for your fully electric vehicle based on your PHEV's smaller needs.
Enrolled directly through your EV (not your charger)
If your enrollment is through your vehicle rather than your charging station, you can use one charger for multiple EVs - just make sure the charger itself isn't also enrolled in the program. We still recommend alternating charging days to avoid one vehicle waiting for the other to finish.
